Comments: Only one die pair is known for 1860 New Orleans dimes. The obverse die utilizes the Type I hub design. Please see the 1861 variety page for an explanation of diagnostic differences between Type I versus Type II obverse hub design.

The 1860 New Orleans date is one of the key date in the Liberty Seated dime series. Most examples will be seen with problems including those in Third Party Grading holders so caution is advised. Many surviving specimens are porous or rough from metal detector finds at Civil War battle sites. Locating an 1860-O dime with original and problem surfaces will take years of searching and considerable patience.
