Choice $450 Very Scarce Date, Coin Gray Patina, Choice Overall, New Orleans Collection. With a mintage of only 632,000, the 1897-O Barber half dollar date has earned respect for its scarcity. The Fine grades are the last "affordable level" before becoming a four figure coin in VF. I'm going with a JUST BUY IT NOW recommendation for this well preserved and choice example from none other than the New Orleans Collection. An attractively choice survivor with a base layer of coin gray patina along with a darker gray peripheral ring on the obverse. The reverse, on the other hand, is an even medium gray. Surfaces are pristine at grade. This piece warrants a GFRC-Choice quality rating and a fair offer price. Purchased during 2010 and returning to the market fourteen years later. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.4 (2005-2011) holder.
