1875-CC BW Counterfeit Diagnostic Points

Comments: A deceptive counterfeit that weighs in at 2.1 grams and composed of silver/white base metal. Normal coin turn die alignment without reeding. There are several anomalies that confirm this is a contemporary counterfeit. The last A in AMERICA is filled and too strong as compared to genuine Carson City minted dime while vertical shield lines 7 and 8 and bent near the scroll. On the reverse, there is extra metal on the rim and between the rim and wreath at 9:00. The first C in the mintmark is partial. The denticles are badly eroded or missing.

This contemporary counterfeit was first identified by Gerry Fortin during August 2013.
